This, either late F0 or early F1, left the shop a couple of weeks ago. Previous owner did a nice job on the resto... cosmetically. I'm glad my friend, the current owner, waited to put miles on it as it was DANGEROUS. Wish I'd taken pictures.
Top of the list was, "Hmmm, why does this handle so oddly?"
Answer- original top steering bearing was assembled with the balls ON TOP of both races.
All that got tossed and replaced with modern tapered bearings.
The pretty paint and seat cover also came at the expense of a front brake that did anything but add weight and take up space. So I replaced the original brake lines that were cracked with age with braided stainless lines and rebuilt the master cylinder and caliper. Tune up stuff was all over the place: Some valves tight, some loose, cheap points that wouldn't time, float levels so low I'm surprised it started at all, really poorly routed fuel lines. After the first weekend back in his possession he told me, "I thought I'd just take it easy and keep it below 80."

I've had a long relationship with this lil' monster. And its owners. Hasn't ever needed much save for a thorough going through, maintenance, and a front end rebuild. Front fender's missing 'cause of tire size. Makes baby look tougher, anyway.

In the shop for resuscitation. I'm enjoying this, as I don't often get the chance to work on a BMW. Been sitting a while so I'm doing the ol' CHITECH tune-up routine and some previous owner detective work (when do you find EXTRA parts in a set of carbs?).
Plus a little cleaning... Right Bing
Right Bing on left, left Bing on right.
